Speak with your attorney before the insurance adjuster

Interstate 94 is a major roadway in Minnesota, and it is the scene of numerous car accidents every week. One St. Cloud resident suffered injuries after getting into a rear-end crash with an unoccupied vehicle. The driver did not wear a seatbelt and went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No matter how severe the car crash was, you should always see a doctor within 24 hours. After that, you have a few people to contact. You need to get in touch with your attorney right away because you will need to file a claim with your insurance provider. You should do this before contacting your insurance adjuster, which you also need to do as soon as possible. There are a couple of reasons why you need to follow this precise order.

Keep the details sparse

During this initial phone call, you want to be brief. There is no need to go into all the details of the accident at this time. You may not have all the facts, and you do not want to speculate. Ultimately, you just need to say you were just in a car crash. If the representative asks you if you feel okay, you can refuse to answer. You do not want to say you feel fine because that could work against you later if your case goes to court.

Have a proxy

After that first phone call, you can expect phone calls from the insurance adjuster. At this point, you can direct the adjuster to your attorney who will answer all questions on your behalf. You can also decide to select a proxy, such as a family member or close friend, who will speak to the adjuster for you. Your statements can work against you in court. However, the statement of a family member will not hold as much weight. All these steps help ensure you do not inadvertently hurt your own personal injury case.
