Do you ever wonder what occupations are the most dangerous? One of the most effective methods for determining the dangerousness of a job is by how many workers die. There is a new list out of the 25 most deadly occupations in America.

These types of workers experience more fatalities because they are in dangerous environments, work closely with hazardous substances or frequently use heavy equipment. Here are five of the most dangerous jobs from the list.

1. Roofers

People who maintain and replace roofs must lift heavy objects, climb, kneel, bend and work in hot temperatures. They also work on rooftops and may fall to lower levels. Most deadly roofing accidents are slips, trips or general falls.

2. Truck drivers

People who drive light or heavy trucks to deliver goods are prone to deadly accidents. Most truck driver fatalities occur due to motor vehicle accidents. However, bodily reactions and overexertion are also common injuries.

3. Construction workers

Construction laborers often work at heights. When construction workers fall from scaffolds, they risk severe injuries and fatalities. People who work in construction may also handle power tools and heavy equipment on a regular basis. Construction workers also get hit by objects and experience back injuries.

4. Repair and maintenance workers

Repair and maintenance workers may fix various structures, appliances and items such as the following:

  • HVAC systems
  • Plumbing
  • Flooring
  • Electrical systems

Slips, trips and falls account for a lot of deadly accidents in this profession. Other injuries include cuts, bruises, electrical shocks and overexertion. 

5. Painters

Painters who work in maintenance and construction apply stains, coating and paint to various surfaces and structures. Over half of painter injuries are because of falls. Some painters also sustain injuries from inhaling irritants such as dust and chemicals.

Even though these are some of the most hazardous occupations, injuries and fatalities can occur at any workplace.
