Dirty Diaper Leads To Daycare Worker Allegedly Harming Child

The operator of a day care has now been charged with assaulting a child because of a dirty diaper.

Prosecutors have filed charges against Robbin K. Rollag, 48, for intentionally harming the girl while she was caring for the girl and other children.

The complaint states that the child sustained a broken leg, stomach injury, and a variety of other injuries while in the care of the woman in her home in Wright County. Rollag is now facing six felonies, including neglect and malicious punishment of a child and assault.

Rollag admitted to authorities that she pushed the girl down, resulting in a bruise on her head, according to court documents. She also told police that the baby's stomach injury was the result of her own frustration after the baby had produced a dirty diaper. She said the broken leg occurred when she tripped and fell on the girl after dropping her. She has also admitted to pinching the girl on her leg hard enough to cause a bruise.

The girl's parents were worried because their daughter was not crawling around like she normally would and would cry when her mother touched her foot, according to court recors.

Rollag now faces up to five years in prison if she is convicted, but due to her having no prior criminal record, she may not receive the maximum penalty.

Rollag's daycare has been licensed since 1998, but has now been shut down by state regulators pending the outcome of the case. State officials say they have no prior actions on file for her, so she has a clean record with the state. However, her county records have not yet been verified.

Under proposed legislature, daycare providers would receive more training in order to deal with the stressful situations that they deal with on a daily basis. It has been recognized by the state that the stresses that occur in daycare environments can be overwhelming. Through more training, providers can learn better styles of interaction so that abusive acts do not occur.
